CHENNAI: Customs officials at Chennai airport have seized amphetamine drug worth 3 crore from different passengers. About 1.5 kg amphetamine was smuggled by an African national who travelled from Guinea via Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.
Customs officers suspect that he could have picked up the contraband during the transit. The man was searched on suspicion, and had concealed Amphetamine ingeniously in the false bottom of his checked-in baggage, officials said. He was remanded in judicial custody.
In another raid, Narcotics Control Bureau sleuths arrested three men for smuggling 438 kg of ganja from Andhra Pradesh to Chennai.
The van and a car were intercepted at Karanodai toll plaza in Tiruvallur district on Saturday. NCB officers noticed a temporary roof on the van and removed it to find ganja in 197 packets hidden in a cavity.
