RUDRAPUR: An ex-serviceman was killed by his son, who was under the influence of alcohol, in Shantipuri (Number 1) village under the Pantnagar police jurisdiction area in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar district on Friday.
The accused — Bhajaman Giri (35) who stabbed Diwan Giri (58), a retired Subedar in the Army, to death — has been arrested by the police.
According to sources, Bhajaman would consume alcohol and indulge in quarrels with family members.
On Thursday night, he returned home intoxicated and started arguing with his family members.
Diwan Giri tried to intervene and stop him, but Bhajaman attacked him with a knife and stabbed him several times causing serious injuries.
The family immediately rushed Diwan Giri to Kichha Hospital, but the doctors declared him dead.
Ankit, the younger son of the deceased, informed the police about the incident around 11:30pm.
The police arrived on the scene and took Bhajaman into custody along with the knife used in the crime.
“The body of the deceased has been sent for postmortem, and the police have started an investigation into the matter. The accused has been booked under section 302 (Murder) of the IPC,” said the SHO of the Pantnagar police station.
